Day 5...A photo of myself 2 years ago

Me at the Sex and the City dinner with my girls before the movie.  I picked this pick because it's so me!

Day 4...My Girls!

Day 4's challenge is to post your favorite picture of your best friend.  Well I have 4, yes 4.  This women are my closest and dearest friends who have been with me for a very long time.

First up is my oldest friend whose name happens to be Nikki too, lol.  We have been friends for 34 years.  I don't have a memory without her in it.  Our dad's use to work together back in the day and invited my family to his daughter's first birthday party...and thats all she wrote.  We have been through everything together.  Friendship like this does not come along everyday and I cherish her deeply!

Next is the "tripod".  I met D (on the right) and V in 1998.  These 2 were roommates and lived next door to me in the dorms.  I like to think that I "grew up" with these ladies.  We each walked into womanhood together hand in hand.

Lastly is my girl Indi...one of Brooklyn's finest!  We went to college together and have grown closer over the past 6 years.  There are very few people in life that inspire me to do better and Indi is at the very top of the list!

Day 3...The Perfect Date

I have to admit that I am quite the serial dater.  I've had some real good dates and some really bad dates but only 1 perfect date.  I was dating a man that I had known for several years through mutual friends but for some reason we decided to "get to know each other better" a few years ago.  He is handsome, intelligent, god fearing, funny adventurous and all the things any woman would love to have in a man....the resume was extra tight.  We lived in a different city from each other and he wanted to come to Nashville for a visit.  Long story short that didn't happen so he suggest that me meet in Chicago for the weekend to hang out since he was going to be there on business.  Clearly this mans definition of hanging out was very different from mine.  I was prepared to take care of my own arrangements but once I said yes, the next day I checked my email and there was a confirmation/itinerary for my trip.  WOW...really!?!  He even booked a separate room for me...just in case I wasn't comfortable staying in a room with him.  Smooth, right?  Well we had a fun filled week full of sightseeing, I saw the play Wicked, and to top off the weekend, we took me to see...are you ready ladies...Maxwell!  Yes chile Maxwell.  This was our first official date and if things would have last between us this would be a great story to tell at cocktail parties.  To bad he turned out to be an ass!

Until next time...

Day 2: What I Ate Today!

This week is homecoming at my school and my boy Huggy (yes as in "Huggy Bear" from Starsky and Hutch"...his nickname from college) is in town from Cali.  Huggy is a great cook and I woke up this morning to the sweet smell of pancakes in the air.  Now I would like to introduce to you "Huggy Bear's Oatmeal Banana's Foster Pancakes"!  Sooooo good and soooo bad for the hips.  To my surprise, they were not to sweet. These pancakes paired with maple syrup was the business...and now the 'itis has settled in nicely.  Time to sleep this off!

Until nest time...

Day 1-"Today Was A Good Day!"

Today Was A Good Day!  Today is the first day of my 30 day blog challenge. The day started with an early morning phone call from my girl Tasha.  I'm not a morning person at all and she is.  I just feel that there is no need for a 'real' thought provoking conversation before 9 am...in other words, if you are not bleeding or in some sort of crisis mode, don't call me lol.  But she doesn't care...2 intelligent women must have an early morning, shallow filled conversation about clothes and men over coffee.  It's a 16 year tradition that we just can't seem to break.  After laughing for an hour straight, I got myself together and hit the street.  My little brother is in town for fall break and we actually got to hang out...just the two of us...which is rare.  We didn't do much besides run errands and play catch up.  It wasn't until today that I realized that my baby brother is a very grown man with grown man ideas.  He is a junior in college, and has a very clear vision of what direction he wants his life to go in...he is years beyond where I was when I was his age.  I am SO proud of this kid.  He will make some mistakes along the way but as long as he remembers that its all about how you recover from those mistakes, that is the true measure of growth!  That's all for now...today was a rare treat that I thought I would share.  Be sure to check back tomorrow for the day 2 challenge.  If you would like a full list of all the challenges, check out my blog post from Oct. 17th.
Until next time...

Joan & David Riding Boots..."Oh Sweet Baby Jesus" I love these boots!

Fall is a beautiful time of year, the weather, my sinuses aren't out of whack, and fall fashion.  I just love dressing in the fall.  So this year I decided that I needed a new pair of riding boots. Riding boots are my 'thang'.  I just think they are so chic and fly at the same time.

Charles David Regiment Lace-up Boot

I was obsessing over the Charles David Regiment Lace-up Boot, but for $400 bucks, I needed to find a cheaper alternative.  And that is what I did...Check out the Joan & David Collection Roberta Classic Riding Boots!

I am so in love with these boots.  The photos don't really do them justice. In person they are so nice.  Granted, I still paid more for these then I care to admit, I know for a fact that these boots will be apart of my wardrobe for many years.  If you look at the buckle closely, you can see the J&D embossed into leather.  The leather is so soft to the touch, yet still durable.  When I tried them on, they were very comfortable which is a plus because I plan to wear these bad boys out this fall and winter.  This is my style hands down.  If you're wondering, I got them at endless.com.

Well that's all folks.  Until next time...

"Allow Me To Re-Introduce Myself--My Name Is Nik, OH N-to-the-I-K!" LOL

Hello all and welcome to my new blog spot!  I have been playing with the idea of starting a blog for while now but I didn't know what to talk about.  If you follow me on my Youtube channel, then you already know that I only talk about one thing...Locs.  Well I wanted to expand more in a blog format.  There are many things that I am into like fashion, make-up, music, books, art and a host of other interests.  I will still talk about locs and haircare, but this blog will be a more in-depth point of view of various topics and also some sort of an outlet for me.  I do have a busy life with school, family and friends, but in my downtime this is where I want to be.  I will be as open as I possibly can with my opinions on various subjects.  With that said, "Allow me to re-introduce myself--My name is Nik, OH N-to-the-I-K" LOL I got jokes.  By the way, check me out on youtube and follow me on twitter.

Anyway, Until next time...

The Best Conditioner for Locs with Color!

If you follow my vlog on Youtube, then you know that I love to color my locs.  It took me a long time to really narrow down what color would best suit me.  This last "dye job" hit the nail on the head.  It's much darker than previous dye jobs with brownish red base infused with copper highlights...I'M IN LOVE!

Salon Exclusive Moisture Sheen therapy Stimulation
Retails for 9.95

As usual, after every "dye job", I have to up my conditioner game.  The best conditioner I have EVER used is the Salon Exclusive Moisture Sheen Therapy Stimulation Conditioning treatment.  This product mixed with a few drops of Salon Exclusive Diamond Oil...THE BOMB!

Salon Exclusive Diamond Oil
Retails for $9.95

After I mix the conditioner and diamond oil together, I section my locs into 4 sections.  I apply the product to my locs generously.  Once all areas are covered, I put on a plastic cap, and sit under my hooded dryer for as long as I can stand it...usual that averages out to be 25 to 30 minutes. I like to first rinse with warm water just to make sure I got all the product out, then I switch to a cold rinse.  I cannot tell you how good my locs feel after I complete this treatment.  My locs feel so soft to the touch and the scent is amazing.  Give Salon Exclusive Hair Products a try and let me know how it works out for you!

Until next time...
Nik

Africas Best Organic Olive Oil Twist & Lock Gel

So I ran out of favorite locking gel, Taliah Waajid Lock It Up, so I took a little trip to my local beauty supply store. I needed to tighten up my locs in a hurry. I ran across Africas Best Organic Olive Oil Gel Twist & Lock and remembered that BronzeGoddess01 mentioned this product in one of her youtube video's so I thought I would give it a shot. I must say for $3.89, I'm impressed. When I first opened the jar I was a little alarmed with the texture of the gel. I expected it to be clear, not a thick, white, creamy substance. I had to look twice to make sure it was not a conditioner. Anywho, I gave it a shot and I must say the hold is pretty good...ok its pretty great! This product is so creamy I don't know if you can really call it a gel. It is very moisturizing to my locs but I didn't notice any shine as the product advertises. It is alcohol free and the company suggests that it is a non flake formula. So far so good. For those who rather use an all natural product...this ain't it but its 3.89 so I think its pretty good for the price. I would definitely re-purchase if in a pinch again!  Until next time...
